Installing your experience in ‘Kiosk’ mode on Edge

What is Kiosk Mode?

Kiosk Mode is a general industry term for restricting a device to a specific application.

In relation to the platform, installing in Kiosk Mode means that the experience runs in full screen, hiding the operation system functionality and ensuring users remain within your experience.

It’s useful when your experience is available in a public setting – such a lobby, customer center or event.

Our recommended browser

Due to the ease and simplicity of installing, dowloading and enabling Kiosk Mode on a Windows PC, we recommend Chrome where possible. The following instructions are appropriate for Edge only.

Desktop Shortcut for Edge on Windows

  • On the Windows Desktop, right-click and select “Create Shortcut”
  • In the Dialog that appears, input the below command into the “Type the location of the item” field, replacing “https://companyname.popcomms.app/app/1” with the URL to your chosen experience, for example:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k start msedge –kiosk https://companyname.popcomms.app/app/1 –edge-kiosk-type=fullscreen –no-first-run

  • Press “Next” button
  • Enter a name for your Shortcut, e.g. “POPcomms Experience” This name will appear with your Shortcut Icon on the Desktop
  • Click “Finish” button

You will now find an icon on your Windows Desktop that will launch your Experience in Kiosk mode in the Microsoft Edge browser

Closing the App for Edge

  • To quit the full-screen Kiosk mode browser application, press Alt + F4
  • We highly recommend having a physical keyboard available, either wired or wireless, connected to the machine running the experience to make exiting the app easier.
