Minimum Hardware Requirements
The performance of POPcomms depends on the type of content, amount of data, operating method and the hardware capabilities of your device. Experiences featuring multiple high-definition videos, 3D modeling, or other resource-intensive content typically require robust CPU, GPU, RAM, and fast hard drive speeds to maintain expected performance.
As a recommendation, but not a finite list, for a standard POPcomms experience:
- Intel® Core i5 7th generation or above
- 8 GB RAM
- Solid State Drive (SSD) with enough memory as per Offline Storage instructions below.
We reserve the right to review this on a case-by-case basis, based on the content of your experience, and are available to liaise with your hardware provider and/or technical team.
Requirements
Hardware and Software
All devices running POPcomms must meet the minimum supported tech specifications and be updated accordingly if they do not match these requirements.
POPcomms may work very well on older specifications, but we might not be able to support them.
Testing your experience in advance of being used
We highly recommend that your experiences are tested five business days in advance of being used, using the same hardware that they will be used on, to test for any issues in advance
For example – if your experience is being used at an exhibition in offline mode, then test your experience on the machines to be used and ensure that you have downloaded the experience and run it in offline mode as per the Help Centre instructions.
Kiosk Mode
If running an experience in kiosk mode, then we highly recommend that a physical keyboard can be inserted into the device, or connected wirelessly, so the experience can be easily exited. This should be connected and the connection tested before starting kiosk mode.
Image Optimisation
All media (images, PDFs, video, and 3D models) should be optimized before uploading into POPcomms.
The following free tools can be used to optimize media files:
- Images (recommend keeping to HD resolution 1920×1080, 96 dpi):
- macOS: ImageOptim
- Windows: FileOptimizer
- Linux: Trimage
- Videos (keep to HD resolution H.264 compression)
- Handbrake
Use ‘Fast 1080p30’ Preset settings
- Handbrake
- 3D Models

Offline Storage
To use POPcomms experiences without an internet connection, media assets, and experience data needs to be stored on the device and downloaded in advance.
Different browsers and operating systems enforce limits on how much storage a single application (e.g. POPcomms) can consume, and the device may automatically remove stored data when the device is running low on storage space, the limit is exceeded, or experiences that aren’t used regularly.
Ensure your device has disk storage available to accommodate all the experiences you want to save for offline usage.
These are the browser offline storage allowances:
- Chrome: Up to 60% of the total disk size
- Edge: Up to 60% of the total disk size
- Firefox: Up to 10% of the total disk size per origin
AND 10 GiB for all POPcomms Experiences - Safari: Up to 60% of the total disk size
See Storage quotas and eviction criteria on MDN for more information.
The above recommendations are likely to change based on new POPcomms functionality or changes to software beyond our control, such as third-party security patches or technical upgrades in some of the software functionality we utilize.
We endeavor to keep this list up to date as and when we are aware of any changes to the minimum specifications required, and we reserve the right to update these specifications. If you have any questions, please contact support@popcomms.com, and we’ll be able to advise you.
