3D Models

3D Model File Types and Optimisation

Supported File Types

We support the following 3D file types on the platform:

  • GLTF

Design Considerations

3D models should be constructed with simple geometries with lower polygon counts.

Complex shapes, lighting, shadows should be done with alpha mapping and texture mapping where possible.

Page Settings

Background

Background Colour

Set a background colour for the 3D model environment

Background Image

Set a background image for the 3D model environment.

Background File Types

Any file can be used for the background, but the background is used within the 3D model environment, so a HDRI or EXR map is the recommended type of image.

You can find HDRI maps for download through Poly Haven.

To convert a HDRI map for use on the platform, you can use a Gain Map Converter such as this one provided by Monogrid

Heading

Within page settings, under “Heading”, you can:

  • Enable/disable the page title
  • Enable/disable the page subtitle
  • Set the alignment of the page title and subtitle
  • Set the colour of the page title and subtitle

Hotspots

Within page settings, under “Hotspots”, you can:

  • Number of Hotspots
  • The transition speed at which the camera moves to a selected hotspot when clicked.

Scene Controls

Within page settings, under “Scene”, you can control:

  • Floor Colour
  • Height of the Floor (the distance between the floor and your model)
  • Shadow for the 3D Model
  • Grid for the floor
  • Fog around the 3D model environment

Camera

Within page settings, under “Camera”, you can control and set:

  • Initial Camera Position
  • Initial Camera Look At
  • Vertical Control Movement (maximum and minimum degree at which the model can be moved vertically).
  • Controls Zoom Range (maximum and minimum amount the user can zoom in and out on the model)
  • Panning (the ability to enable or prevent users panning the model).

Animation

Within page settings, under “Animation”, you can control and set:

  • Play Animations – if your model has animations built into the file, these can be enabled/disabled.
  • Auto Rotate – control whether the model automatically rotates, as well as the speed and when it should start to rotate.
